OKAYBETA #8 | Friends News: October 2022

Hope you had a fantastic month!

Last Friday I took a little break to enjoy a nice hike. Fall foliage is in full bloom, and there were beautiful colors everywhere. Here is my best attempt to capture and keep a little piece of what I saw.

Whatever you are doing this week, I hope you take the time to enjoy outside! And without much ado, let's dive into this month's issue.

πŸ†• Whats New

October was really wild on my side with the yearly hotel fair, the company's 15th anniversary and the launch of the new corporate identity. Overall pretty intense weeks, but the good thing: people love the new design.

It gives us a lot more flexibility with everything related to the brand and a solid foundation to build upon in the coming years. The figurative mark combines transformation and flexibility. At the same time, it offers a metaphorical bracket to "embrace" all the services the company is offering as well all of its clients and partners. I know this is rather marketing porn, but this comes handy when collaborating with other brands on a regular basis.

the new brand design is so strong it can even embrace a mountain πŸ’ͺβ›°

πŸš€ Marketing Stuff

I'll feature some creative ideas and concepts in this section. This month I'll just start with one of the smartest influencer marketing approaches I've seen so far.

πŸ”₯ Nice brands

  • Snow Peak Japanese outdoor & lifestyle brand. It's been founded in the late 50s but still seems to be a rather well-kept secret - at least in Europe. Unfortunately, kind of tricky to find it in retail shops here.

  • Stay Hungry Berlin based clothing brand combining urban and the outdoors. Discovered their shop a few weeks ago while looking for shelter from the rain in the same street where my coffee bar was back in 2012. Nice style, high quality.

β€‹πŸ˜Œ Dope stuff on the internet

Some of my favorite things since the last newsletter:

  • πŸŽ₯ Video

I will write more about this later. This video is an intro to the urban planning concept of 15-Minute-Cities: Where your work, your school, your shops, your center are all within 15min reach. This is about quality of life, human-centered planning, less cars and asking the right questions: "What kind of streets do you want?" instead of "Where do you want to park your car?" (98%: In front of my house πŸ˜…).

  • ⌚️ Cool Product

The skateboard designed by Sean Woolsey is one of my kids' favorite items at home. I'm seriously considering to order one of his Ping Pong tables as well.

  • πŸŽ™ Random

Display your design in f*cked up mockups

I'm still experimenting with the format of this newsletter. Let me know what you think. Replies go straight to my inbox and I love getting mail.
